Surrounded by the largest prickly pear plantation on the island dedicated to the cultivation of cochineal, a product that played an important economic role in Lanzarote in the 19th century, the Jardín de Cactus is home to around 4,500 plants of 450 different species grouped into 13 cactus families from the five continents.
The greenery supplied by the plants contrasts with the blue sky and the black volcanic rock to create a harmonious explosion of colour that never fails to impact the visitor. The song of the birds and the tireless buzzing of the insects that enjoy this distinctive oasis are the only sounds that interrupt the peace and silence that reign over the place.
